It is a customary tradition to introduce oneself before embarking on an exciting and adventure laden journey. So here it goes…

Hello! My name is Michelle and I live in Cape Town, South Africa, a place I’ve lived all my life. Growing up in a city filled with such a high diversity of life I quickly became a lover of nature, a passion that has helped shape me as a person as well as drive my career. Last year I received  a Bachelor of Science degree in marine biology, botany and zoology at the University of Cape Town and am currently pursuing an Honours Degree in Marine Biology. My main area of focus is in sustainable fisheries management and the socio-economic effects that drive them. I’m hoping to one day develop a method of sustainable fishing practice that utilizes local knowledge and resources, thus uplifting local economies and livelihoods.

I am a huge advocate for animals rights, effective conservation management and climate change action , an aspect I believe all people should be involved in.

Recently I have developed a love of photography within nature, I’m no expert but a hoping to increase my skill and technique in this field as I feel it a great way to spread knowledge and educate people about the world around us. Another great hobby of mine is reading. Ever since I can remember books have always formed an integral part of my life . They have allowed me to enter new worlds and forget about mine, to experience love and grief and to form bonds with characters that will last a lifetime. They have helped shape me and turned me into the person I am today, each giving me a life lesson in their own mysterious and charming way.

The main purpose of this blog is to for me to have a creative outlet in which to express the ongoing events and experiences in my life. I also hope to spread conservation and sustainable awareness about the world that we live in and the small ways in which we as individuals can make a difference.

That’s me in a nutshell. I hope this extended introduction has allowed you to gain a greater sense of who I am and what I stand for. If that’s something you like Great! I would love to hear from you 🙂
